Wharfedale technology |
4 October 2010 |
|
Since the new Diamond 10.4 and 10.6 are introduced, Wharfedale makes clear
that they make perfect speaker with a great price-condition. Why? Because of
the fact that the designers use special techniques which u normally see in much
more expensive systems. Like the stronger cabinet walls with curved cabinet
walls. It is an excellent move from Wharfedale to use these much more expensive
techniques in the Diamond10-series. In fact, every Wharfedale Diamond10 is in
perfect shape.
The 85cm height Diamond10.4 is able to handle a 120watt amplifier. The 90cm height Diamond10.6 can handle a heavier amplifier. Both speakers do have a great Nominal Frequency Range and are only available in a prefect detailed blackwood finish.
|
 |
- Stronger cabinet walls: The concept of curved cabinet walls, for strength and the reduction of internal standing waves, has been retained from the Diamond 9 Series. However, these walls have been made stronger through a superior method of bonding and curving the panels, increasing rigidity and, aided by internal bracing, reducing the audible effects of panel resonance.
- Composite front baffle panel: The front baffle features a composite panel structure with a piano-black finish. This contributes to the speaker’s smart new look and, more importantly, to its improved sound quality, as it reduces the effects of vibration and provides a stable platform for the drive units.
|
 |
- Low Profile Chassis: The open nature of the chassis reduces reflection from rear cone movements, allowing air to move freely through the driver, which in turn results to an overall even response with a much lower distortion. Formed from a high density, injection-moulded polymer pioneered by Wharfedale, the chassis itself provides substantial damping of ring waves.
|
 |
- Tweeter diffuser: Over the soft-dome tweeter is a metal diffusion grid which, as well as protecting the dome when the speaker is being used without its grille, also irons out high-frequency perturbations right up to 30kHz, delivering a smoother response and crystal-clear treble detailing.
- Enhanced front grille with ‘invisible’ fixing: The front grille has been improved to ensure it has no adverse effect on the speaker’s performance. In addition, it is now affixed without pegs, therefore eschewing the need for unsightly holes in the piano-black finish front baffle.
|
 |
- Offset Bi-Wire Terminals: Utilizing the same familiar offset terminal block as with its predecessors, the gold-plated contact areas and bridging strips allow firm connections with the best possible connectivity, whilst the offset pattern provides allowance for heavy duty cables and a wider range of cable connection options.

New Diamond 10.1 Review in What Hi Fi? Sound and Vision |
22 November 2010 |
"Action movies and rock music are this system’s bread and butter with agile bass and plenty of high-end detail"
T3 (Dec 2010) recommends the Wharfedale Diamond 10SX Home Cinema Pack.
T3’s latest issue delivers superb coverage to Wharfedale’s 10SX HCP package. The speaker set-up forms part of the ‘Surround Sound’ feature’s recommended mid-range 5.1 system – plus the magazine selects the system as the feature’s outright winner!
Following a torrent of ecstatic five-star star reviews spanning the last 13 months, the magazine has finally decided to drop the 10.1’s rating from five stars to four in the face of more recent competition. However, given that these speakers are 25% and 37% more expensive than the Wharfedale respectively, the 10.1 remains What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision’s top recommendation at the EURO 250 price point.

Strong WH Diamond 10HCP Review in Home Cinema Choice Magazine |
1 january 2010 |
"Remarkably clear treble detailing... The most musical of the bunch"
The Wharfedale Diamond 10 HCP compact 5.1 speaker system nets a very strong review in the latest issue of Home Cinema Choice.
The Diamond 10 HCP lines up against other compact speaker packages – termed ‘sub/sat systems’ by the magazine – from Monitor Audio, KEF and Tannoy. In the final verdict, the Wharfedale system ranks a very close second to the package from Monitor Audio, and beats the KEF and Tannoy packages in the process. In terms of star ratings, the Wharfedale and Monitor Audio systems achieve identical scores.
Two areas in which the Wharfedale is ranked ahead of the other speakers in the group is in the performance of the 10.MX-SUB subwoofer (“the deepest bass of the bunch”) and in its musical ability (“the most musically gifted set here”).
In addition, the Wharfedale package features very strongly on the magazine’s cover.
